"Spring Prelude" (20 x 20") captures that tender moment just before spring fully arrives—when the air holds promise, when color begins to return but hasn't yet reached its full intensity. This painting embodies anticipation, the quiet before nature's grand entrance.
Working with acrylic on linen, I built up soft veils of rose and mauve that frame luminous passages of pale blue and lime green. Linear botanical elements throughout suggest stems not yet fully leafed out, buds preparing to open, the delicate architecture of early growth. Navy blue forms anchor the bottom, grounding the ethereal upper passages like earth holding roots before the upward surge.
"Prelude" speaks to beginnings, to overtures, to that moment before the main event. I'm fascinated by these threshold times—when we can sense what's coming but it hasn't quite arrived. The painting holds both memory of winter and promise of spring, existing in that liminal space between seasons.
Viewers will recognize their own moments of anticipation, finding beauty in the waiting, in the almost-here.
Professional-grade acrylic on linen canvas. Edges painted, ready to hang. Signed on back. Certificate included.
