Resting was made in 2023, oil on canvas, 30 by 30 by 1.5 inches. The painting was built in layers, oil glazes applied over an acrylic ground, each pass allowed to dry before the next. That process is part of the work. Color deepens without losing transparency; earlier marks stay visible beneath later ones. The painting holds its own accumulation.
The composition anchors in a dark, weighty passage at the lower left, moves through a middle zone of broken whites, ochre, and pale warm tones, and opens into light at the upper register. There is a sense of something settling, not stopped, but arrived. The title comes from watching that happen on the surface: the moment when movement gives way not to emptiness but to stillness. A body returned to itself. A landscape between events.
