"Pentecost" (48 x 48") embodies the transformative instant when tongues of flame, Divine fire descend and everything changes. This painting emerged from my fascination with spiritual fire as both a literal and metaphorical force, as destroyer and illuminator.
Working with oil layered over acrylic underpainting, I built up intense passages of orange, coral, and crimson that surge upward through a framework of deep greens. The vertical flames seem to dance and flicker, contained yet barely controlled by the surrounding botanical forms. The painting holds tension between earth and fire, between the grounded green world and transcendent energy that descends from above.
The title references the biblical Pentecost—when the Holy Spirit appeared as flames—but the painting speaks to any moment of spiritual awakening, creative fire, or transformative energy that changes us irrevocably. This is fire that enlightens rather than consumes, though its power is undeniable.
