10 × 10” Framed

oil on canvas

This is a dynamic and expressive 10" x 10" oil painting that captures the raw energy of a turbulent seascape or stormy landscape. The composition is dominated by swirling, atmospheric movement that fills the entire square canvas.

Color Palette: The work employs a predominantly cool palette of blues ranging from deep navy to bright cerulean, interwoven with warm earth tones including ochres, browns, and golden yellows. Crisp whites are scattered throughout, creating highlights that suggest foam, clouds, or breaking light.

Technique: The paint application is notably gestural and energetic, with visible brushstrokes that follow the movement of wind and water. With both thick impasto in some areas and more fluid, blended passages in others, I have created varied textures across the surface. The canvas texture is clearly visible through the paint in places, adding to the raw, immediate quality of the work.

Composition: The painting appears to depict either stormy seas with crashing waves or perhaps a dramatic sky with swirling clouds above a landscape. The horizontal bands of color in the lower portion suggest water or land, while the upper areas swirl with atmospheric energy. There's no clear focal point, which enhances the sense of all-encompassing natural forces.

Mood: The overall effect is one of drama and movement - this feels like nature captured in a moment of intensity, whether it's a storm at sea or turbulent weather over land. The energetic brushwork and dynamic color relationships create a sense of immediacy and emotional intensity that's characteristic of expressive landscape painting.
