In the Woods Early Spring

$2,200.00

"In the Woods Early Spring" (30 x 30") captures that exhilarating moment when winter's grip finally releases and the forest floor erupts with color. This painting embodies the almost violent joy of spring's arrival—when green returns with force and wildflowers push through last year's leaves in brilliant magenta, coral, and gold.

Working with oil layered over acrylic underpainting, I built up a complex surface where deep forest greens meet explosive bursts of pink and purple. Linear elements throughout suggest emerging stems, unfurling ferns, the delicate architecture of new growth. The painting holds both the cool shadows of the forest canopy and the warm light breaking through—that particular quality of early spring when sunlight feels both gentle and insistent.

I wanted to convey not just what early spring looks like but how it feels—that sense of barely contained energy, of life surging back after dormancy. The layered surface mirrors the forest floor itself, where new growth emerges through layers of seasons past.

My hope is that viewers will feel spring's irrepressible vitality, that cellular joy of renewal and return.
