Burgeoning
"Burgeoning" (10 x 10") captures growth at its most mysterious moment—that instant before something fully emerges, when potential is more visible than form. This intimate painting invites close viewing, rewarding attention with intricate detail.
Working with oil layered over acrylic, I built up a complex surface of blues and teals punctuated by darker indigo forms that suggest emerging botanical structures. The lace-like textures throughout evoke cellular growth, the delicate architecture of new leaves, and the intricate patterns nature creates at microscopic scales. Looking into this painting feels like peering through water at something beginning to unfold beneath the surface.
"Burgeoning" refers to that moment of rapid increase, the beginning of flourishing. I wanted to capture growth not at its peak but at its most tentative, most vulnerable moment—when life is just beginning its upward push, when potential hasn't yet fully materialized into form.
The small 10 x 10" format creates intimacy. This is a painting that asks you to lean in, to discover, to witness the quiet miracle of beginning.
