Oil on Canvas

Size in inches: 48 x 48"

Size in cm: 121.9 x 121.9 cm

"Are We Here Are We There?" (48 x 48") asks the essential question of our distracted age: where are we, really? Physically present but mentally elsewhere, bodies in one place while thoughts scatter to a thousand others, here but not here, there but not there.

Working with oil on canvas, I built up layers that suggest multiple planes of existence or attention. Deep blues on the left evoke the pull of elsewhere—the digital void, the past, the future, anywhere but now. A brilliant yellow form cuts through the upper portion like sudden awareness breaking through fog. The center holds complex, overlapping passages that resist clear reading—appropriate for a painting about our fractured attention.

The question mark in the title is crucial. We can't answer definitively because most of us exist in perpetual split—here enough to function, there enough to miss what's happening. The painting embodies this fragmentation through its layered complexity, its refusal to resolve into single meaning. Looking at it requires the same choice we face moment to moment: will we be here, fully present, or will our attention drift there?

Professional-grade oil on canvas. Edges painted, ready to hang. Signed on back. Certificate included.
