Petal by Petal" (48 x 48") is a meditation on gradual transformation—how change arrives not in dramatic sweeps but through small, incremental shifts. This large-scale painting embodies the layered nature of growth and becoming.
Working with oil over acrylic underpainting, I built up veils of crimson, coral, and deep rose interwoven with olive greens and golden ochre. Linear elements suggest stems and petals in various states—some unfurling, others falling, all caught in the ongoing cycle of bloom and decay. The painting holds both fire and earth, celebrating beauty in all its stages.
The title reflects my process as much as the subject. Each layer, each mark, each adjustment happens petal by petal—patient accumulation that eventually reveals the whole. This isn't about capturing a single perfect moment but honoring the entire journey of transformation.
My hope is that viewers will feel permission to embrace their own gradual unfolding, to trust that beauty emerges through process, not perfection.
